Organizations are divided into several types, each possess certain characteristics which determine its different advantages and disadvantages. An organization of bureaucratism usually presents a strict hierarchy and have little innovation, while an organization with loose structure faces a difficulty of control.
However, Henry Mintzberg pointed out that some organizations, like McDonalds and IBM, show a clear characteristics of hierarchy but can still make innovation when they need and companies with a loose structure, like HP, 3M, have a strict control system. It seems that organizations are similar to lego, which can combine by several varies compositions that exist in different or even opposite structures.
Management education devote themselves to clear the notions, but management is far different from maths. The notions, while help us to understand some commonsense of management, banish our insight of other posibility.
